Séamus Power Goes Bogey-Free for First Time in Six Months at Valspar Championship
Séamus Power achieved his first bogey-free round in six months, securing his spot for the weekend at the Valspar Championship held in Innisbrook. Hailing from West Waterford, Power began the second round one shot outside the projected cut line, having started the tournament with a one-over 72 on the challenging Copperhead Course on Florida's Gulf Coast.
However, he delivered his strongest scrambling performance of the season, successfully saving par on all eight occasions to record an impressive three-under 68. This stellar performance placed him seven shots behind the halfway leader, Sunjae Im, at two-under par overall.
This was a crucial round for the 39-year-old from Tooraneena, whose primary objective for the current season is to secure a spot in the top 100 of the FedExCup standings, which would grant him exemption in 2027. Coming into the week ranked 91st after completing all four rounds at The Players Championship, Power hadn't posted a bogey-free score since the Procore Championship last September.
His round featured birdies on the eighth, 12th, and 13th holes, alongside critical par saves on the third, fourth, sixth, 11th, 15th, 16th, and 17th, positioning him among the top five players in terms of performance around the greens. While challenging for his third PGA TOUR victory, which would significantly boost his season, remains a considerable task—especially with Lipsky leading at eight-under after a 65 followed his opening 69—Power's performance marks a significant step forward.
