Rory McIlroy Unveils Exquisite Masters Champions Dinner Menu
Rory McIlroy, gearing up to host the esteemed Masters Club Dinner, has revealed an elaborate menu for his fellow champions. This culinary experience, blending personal preferences with crowd-pleasing options and a tribute to his Irish heritage, will precede his quest for another green jacket at Augusta National. The golf star expressed his excitement to host the traditional Tuesday night gathering.
A Diverse Culinary Journey
The dinner's appetizers offer a mix of home comfort and adventurous flavors:
- His mother's signature dates, stuffed with goat cheese and wrapped in bacon.
- Grilled elk sliders, a nod to McIlroy's own diet leading up to last year's Masters.
- Rock shrimp tempura, a widely appealing choice.
- A Georgia peach and ricotta flatbread with hot honey, incorporating local ingredients.
For the first course, guests will be treated to a yellowfin tuna carpaccio, a sophisticated dish inspired by Le Bernardin, one of McIlroy and his wife Erica's favorite New York restaurants. This delicate offering features thin slices of French baguette with foie gras, topped with tuna carpaccio. Augusta National's culinary team reportedly collaborated with the restaurant to ensure its authenticity.
Mindful of various tastes, McIlroy provides two main course options: a luxurious wagyu fillet mignon for those who prefer red meat, or a perfectly seared salmon fillet. These will be accompanied by an array of sides:
- Traditional Irish champ (colcannon), a comforting potato dish from McIlroy's childhood.
- Sautéed Brussels sprouts and glazed carrots with brown butter.
- Crispy Vidalia onion rings, a further homage to Georgia's local produce.
The dessert course promises a delightful conclusion with a classic sticky toffee pudding, served warm with vanilla ice cream and a rich toffee sauce.
A Connoisseur's Wine Selection
McIlroy’s discerning taste extends to his wine selection from the Augusta National cellar. The evening will begin with a 2015 Salon Brut champagne. This will be followed by a 2022 Domaine Leflaive Batard Montrachet, notably the first white wine McIlroy genuinely liked. The red wine, a 1990 Chateau Lafite Rothschild from Pauillac, Bordeaux, holds significant sentimental value as it was the wine he celebrated with on the night of his Masters triumph, a choice influenced by fellow golfer Shane Lowry.
The dinner culminates with a luxurious 1989 Chateau D'Yquem dessert wine from Sauternes, Bordeaux. McIlroy, born in '89, describes this "liquid gold" as the perfect ending to any great meal.
With a menu that reflects his journey, heritage, and refined palate, Rory McIlroy’s Masters Champions Dinner is set to be a memorable and celebrated occasion for the esteemed gathering of golf's elite.
