Golfer Sara Byrne Recovers from Elbow Injury, Aims for Spring LET Return
Golfer Sara Byrne is currently recovering and anticipates a return to competition this spring, following a significant elbow injury sustained in January.
The 24-year-old Douglas native fractured the radial head in her right elbow during an accidental fall outside her gym. However, her recovery is progressing smoothly, potentially allowing her to compete in the Ladies European Tour (LET) events in South Africa next month, or alternatively, make her comeback when the LET circuit returns to Europe for the German Masters in May.
On social media, Byrne shared details of her injury: "Unfortunately, in early January, as I was leaving the gym, I had an accident and fractured the radial head in my right elbow, alongside partially tearing both my UCL and MCL ligaments."
She added, "It's been a challenging period of coming to terms with it, involving extensive rehabilitation and physiotherapy, but I am definitely on the road to recovery."
Currently, she is in Miami, focusing on regaining her fitness.
Her father, Derek, confirmed her progress, stating, "She's now fit and healthy, concentrating on rebuilding her strength and preparing for her return to the tour."
Depending on the number of tournaments she misses due to this injury, she might qualify for a medical exemption at the commencement of the next season.
The good news is that by avoiding surgery, she has a greater chance of an earlier-than-anticipated return. If the three LET events across South Africa and Mauritius prove too soon, her comeback could still align with the Amundi German Masters in mid-May.
Nonetheless, this injury is a significant setback for the former Curtis Cup standout. She had successfully retained her LET card last season with a strong performance, securing 69th place in the Order of Merit, with the top 70 players maintaining full status.
